According to the latest report from the State of Oregon Employment Department, Portland metro has created nearly 250,000 jobs since 2010. The region’s job gains have been broad, with almost every sector enjoying growth.

The March 2019 Economics Indicator report highlights a piece of often-overlooked data – the impressive recovery of the manufacturing industry. Despite intense foreign competition, an aging workforce and increasing automation, Portland manufacturing has come back strong since the last recession.

Manufacturing jobs grew by 3.7% in the Portland region since 2018-Q1 – more than twice as fast as the economy as a whole. In 2017, Portland’s manufacturing industry posted an average annual wage of $81,821 – 40% higher than the larger economy.
